When you are ready to learn about what divorce will look like for your family, give me a call. Divorce involves lots of changes: to your financial future, to your work – life balance, for your children. We can discuss your needs and goals, and find a solution for you. If you don’t know what your goals are, we can talk about options until you decide how you want to move forward.
Child Custody & Support
There are several options of how your children will spend time between their parents’ households. So called “standard visitation” doesn’t work for everyone. If you and your co-parent agree, the range of options are limitless. If you don’t agree, there are customary plans to agree on, non-court options like mediation or co-parent counseling to reach agreement together, or the Judge will pick the schedule for you.
Child Support in Georgia is determined by Statute with a mathematical formula. Once you know the parents’ income, costs of child care, and costs of health insurance, the calculator will do all the math for you. Other regular expenses for the children can also be included in the calcuation. Talk to us about your needs for a child support deviation.
Alimony Or Spousal Support
There is no set formula in Georgia for alimony, but there are factors the Judge has to consider in determining alimony. Whether you are concerned about paying alimony, or concerned about receiving alimony, we can talk through the range of possibilities to find a solution that works for your family.
Property Division
Property in Georgia is divided however is fair. All property acquired during a marriage, both assets and debts, is divided equitably or fairly between the spouses at the time of the divorce. While dividing things equally is common, when there are reasons not to divide things equally, other divisions are possible. We frequently work with financial experts, like divorce financial planners, to decide what is fair in your case.
It is very important that you have all the provisions for property division correct in your divorce paperwork. Property division is one of the few areas that cannot be changed by a Judge in the future. You have to think through all the options and what-ifs before you finalize your divorce. Even if you agree on everything with your spouse, it is imporant to have someone check your Agreement before it is sent to the Court in case you have missed something. We are happy to review your Agreement before you sign it, no matter who has drafted it.
